The Archives Centre houses extensive collections relating to Westminster past and present.
The City of Westminster extends from Marylebone and Paddington in the
north to Pimlico in the south, and from Hyde Park and Knightsbridge in
the west to Covent Garden in the east. It includes Bayswater and Queen’s
Park, St John’s Wood and Maida Vale, Belgravia and Mayfair, and
St James’s and Soho.
Material includes amongst other items, books, newspapers and periodicals, parish registers,
maps and plans, photos and prints, census returns and rate books.
The collections provide an opportunity to explore family history, local history,
the history of a house or street, fashion and design, business studies
and academic research.
Special services are also provided. These include services for schools, adult education courses,
publications for sale, meeting room hire, conservation, exhibitions, tours
of the Archives Centre, a London-wide general reference collection and
the 1881 census index for the whole country.
