Soho Housing association (SHA) was set up in the mid-1970s by Soho residents to try and improve local housing conditions and to ensure that existing homes were not destroyed by redevelopment. The Association continues to have a strong community base working in a multi-cultural area. A large number of existing tenants are of Italian and Chinese origin and SHA is continuing to develop links with the Bengali community.
SHA works to provide well managed affordable housing, enhancing and sustaining the diverse communities in the heart of London. The Association’s board consists of tenants, residents and senior business people and 50% of its shareholders are local residents. SHA is committed to diversity and equality of opportunity in all aspects of its work.
As a local landlord SHA has a commercial portfolio including bookshops, and restaurants. Additionally, SHA provides space for the Soho Family Centre in St James’ Residences, an office for Kairos in Archer Street and a base for the administrator of the Soho Caring Agencies Forum.
